“Fish and jello-shots? I’m throwing up tonight”

I thought deep fried cod and $1 jello shots was the quickest way to a woman’s heart.  I was wrong. We were watching Katie’s dog, Lucas, so I thought keeping it local made sense. Plus, local guide master Prentice hooked me up with a $15 off coupon. And we’ve never been to this relatively new place. So, what could go wrong? In the words of Jamie, "I'm not feeling the fish". The place is A Salt N Battered and is located on 61 in West Ashley, right next door to Taco Spot. It’s a simple menu of fish & chips and some appetizers like bang bang shrimp (see below) and chicken wings. The fish was a little over battered but decent, not up to par with Codfather. Overall, I thought the food was ok, guy behind the bar was good, and I give them some credit for trying some live music. Though it was difficult to make out the lyrics because the singer sounded like if Boomhauer had a Mexican cousin.

Eventually, we decided to go next door for drinks and leave the lone other couple to deal with the awkward because-you-know-it’s-the-right-thing-to-do clapping at the end of each song. All in all, I’m choosing to stay in a positive state of mind.  It may not have swept Jamie off her feet, but it was improvement from last year at La Fontana. I love you Jamie.
