Rebel Taqueria: Let's give em something taco about!

Rebel Taqueria was up until recently a very popular food truck in the Charleston area, they have since ventured into a brick-and-mortar establishment with a small bar in North Charleston. I first heard of Rebel Taqueria when I was looking for a food truck to cater our rehearsal dinner. I had contacted a few places and while I had never had their food, Rebel Taqueria’s low cost and flexibility when Brian and I had to cancel our wedding TWICE, would have made them a win even if that food had been bad, but it was far from bad, in fact it was excellent and I’m still getting compliments about it. Shout out to Carrie their event Coordinator for being a therapist as well as a taco provider.
Given our favorable history with the place, Brian and I decided to go in and check it out. I’ll also take this moment to mention that the office admin at my work, who will remain nameless, so she doesn’t get mad at me, mentioned the staff was full of “cute guys with man buns” when she picked up tacos for the office last week. I feel like that is important information to include to accurately describe the vibe for fung shui reasons.
If you take us up on this suggestion, on the drive there you may think to yourself “Where did Jamie and Brian just send me?” just know that means that you are on the right path and you’re about to be rewarded with queso and cold beer. When we arrived, it was freakishly warm out for February and they had set out three or four tables on the sidewalk. There was plenty of parking if that is something you’re concerned about. We walked in to check out the place and look at a menu and were greeted by a familiar face behind the bar, Zack, who we recognized from Lowtide Brewery over in Johns Island where he is a bartender. Turns out Zack is from Ohio originally so him and Brian caught about Ohio things while I perused the menu. I wasn’t listening to them, so I can only assume the conversation centered around football and Drew Carey. I told Zack I had a headache, and he gave us two free coffee tequila shots to start the afternoon off right. It did not help my head but was surprisingly smooth and very much appreciated.
Brian ordered the special, a steak and eggs breakfast bowl with extra hot sauce and a mimosa-rita, which as you guessed it, is a combination of a mimosa and a margarita. He enjoyed the food but switched to beer after the first mimosa-rita. I was going to order a salad but was very easily talked out of that by Brian. Brian is a lucky man, married to a woman whose hobbies include eating tacos and complaining about getting fat. I ended up ordering a chicken taco, chips and queso and a Rolling Rock, which seemed to amuse Zack. While everything was delicious, I have to say this is the best queso I have had in Charleston, maybe the best queso I’ve had anywhere. It has just a slight kick to it and the seasoned chips are the thick kind that don’t break easily. If you order nothing else get the damn chips and queso. We had a few more Tecates and just sat outside enjoying the weather and people watching. This would have been a lovely end to a lovely Sunday funday but when we pulled into our driveway, I realized I had left my purse there. My only complaint about this place is that if you call them, you will only reach a voicemail, so you can’t order food or ask them if they have your purse because you’re a drunk idiot who is not responsible enough to have nice things. Anyway, they had it safe and sound for me and I hope they continue to accept our befuddled patronage.
