May 18, 2008 - Jamie, Lynchie, and I just checked out this new Mexican joint in West Ashley. The place is relatively unassuming from the outside, sharing space in a strip mall with Panda Chinese, a local hardware store, and the DMV. But, the inside is spacious and has a legit square bar that opens on one side to the outdoor patio. The staff was friendly and were quick to refill salsa. Respectado. I was weary of the margaritas because they were premixed in a large vat but they tasted like they had been mixed with a decent amount of tequila. When it comes to food, I judge a Mexican restaurant by their pastor tacos. If it's not on your menu, you suck. This place passed that test but there was honestly more pineapple on each taco than pork. That's ok if you are charging $1.50 for a street taco but not when charging $4 a pop. All that said, Los Reyes had a fun and friendly atmosphere with slightly overpriced and mediocre fair. I'll be back to drink Tecate cans on the patio bar. Hasta la vista - Brian.
