Hyde: Metro Diner is chain; you don’t blog about chains.

Jekyll: Technically yes, but there only two in the whole state of SC. And what about the menu? Fried Chicken & Waffles, Shrimp & Grits, Meatloaf, Beef Tips, Chicken Pot Pie, on on on…It’s not Waffle House.

Hyde: You got a problem with Waffle House?

Jekyll: No, I’m just saying it’s blog worthy. Regardless, it’s my blog and I’ll blog about whatever I damn well please. Maybe Waffle House is next.

Hyde: Calm down. How did you end up here on a Wednesday night?

Jekyll: Jamie was under the weather and had a hankering for mashed potatoes. She even asked ”Should we go to Applebee’s?” in her search for potatoes.

Hyde: Whaaaaat? Jamie coming down from her New England high horse to middle America cuisine?

Jekyll: When I said under the weather, I think she developed temporary multiple personality disorder. I was so confused.

Hyde: Ok, get to the point.

Jekyll: My overall thoughts are as follows:

1. The menu was diverse, with unique options, and offered breakfast and lunch all day.

2. The place was clean, comfortable and spacious.

3. The prices were very reasonable.

Hyde: I’m not impressed.

Jekyll: Let me tell you a story about my experience and if you disagree with my two-thumbs up rating, then you have no soul.

Hyde: Try me

Jekyll: I was between the Metro Club (classic club with ham, turkey, bacon, swiss, lettuce, tomato and three slices of white bread) and The Bissell Breakfast (two eggs any style, sausage, toast, hash browns or grits, and a short stack of pancakes). My gut was telling me pancakes so I went with it.

When it came time to eat the pancakes, I was missing peanut butter so I waited for our server Jessica to come back around. When she did, she was concerned that my pancakes were no longer hot and wouldn’t melt the peanut butter. I said no, that’s my fault, I should have ordered it sooner. But, she insisted and brought me another order of pancakes (and let me eat the first), fresh off the griddle, with plenty of peanut butter. This may seem like a small gesture to some, but it wasn’t lost on me. Thanks Jessica, you rock!

Hyde: I do love peanut butter.

Jekyll: My new favorite chain.
