Lynchie (Kristyn) is moving to Colorado Springs. But, before her cross-country trek planned for the next day, she needed to claim her prize winnings. The winnings were for a bet won months earlier, while her and I sat people watching at the Roost and wagering on which bartender would take the next shift. How the stakes were set on a burger, who knows? But, the destination was mutually agreed upon, as we shared slight shame for not having blogged about Moe’s sooner.

Moe’s Crosstown, not to be confused with Chipotle’s red headed stepchild, is a Charleston locals’ favorite known for their top-notch bar food and neighborhood tavern feel. Some pretentious Mount Pleasant folk may be confused to hear songs from Waylon’s son Shooter, John Prine, and Dwight Yokam blaring on the speaker this Sunday morning. The vibe is atypical of that crowd and has an outsider feel, from my outsider perspective. I feel it apropos for this our last blog meal with Lynchie, a modern-day nomad & outlaw in her own right. She’s been a long-time friend of Jamie from back home in Boston and more recently of mine through Jamie.

Lynchie went with the BLT Burger, equipped with fried tomato, bacon, mozzarella and pesto. She summed it up in three words as “Big, Juicy, & Delicious”. Jamie, in her typical defiant fashion, refused to hop on the burger train and instead opted for the chicken parm sandwich unicycle. The sandwich was sizable, and she ate half, which means she approved. I ordered the Eye Opener Burger, with bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce and my thoughts are as follows:

1. Beef - The patty was a quality cut and cooked perfectly to medium. A huge pet peeve of mine is ordering medium but the burger comes out looking grayer than a Portland sky (so I’ve heard).

2. Egg – Over easy as it should be.

3. Bun – Come to think of it, I don’t much remember, which is perfect.

4. Overall, the ingredients screamed freshness.

I can’t visit Moe’s without ordering Moe Hot Wings, known as some of, if not the hottest in Charleston. You know, the ones where the waiter/bartender always asks “Have you had these before? I just want to check so you aren’t miserable.” I wanted to taste the burger, so I had these for dessert.

As always, Jamie and I had a great time with Lynchie, a true staple of the blog. You will be missed. I'm glad we met and am proud to call you my friend. Goodbye to my roll dog, we’ll catch you on the flip side.
