Thee brewery is literally touching this cemetery.

...not a restaurant was open, not even….but seriously, half of Charleston had followed the mandatory evacuation orders for Hurricane Florence and with them they took most Charleston bars and restaurants. Luckily, for Jamie, Kristyn, and I, D'Als was open.

Two brothers from Philly opened the place in 2006 with a Kevin Costneresque philosophy so simple but true: “If the pizza is good, and the beer is cold, people will come”:http://www.dalspizza.com/#story.

And we did.

Let me start by thanking D'Als for siding with me on one of my biggest pet peeves, a men’s bathroom without a urinal. Below is the men’s bathroom at Dales’, a urinal inside a narrow room and nothing else. Thank you. Lavatory bias aside, I was impressed by the pizza, specifically the crust. It's a perfect consistency between too thin and overly dense. The crust here is light and compliments the toppings, the way it should be. Other positives include 1) pepper flakes, oregano, and parmesan on every table (this is easy but rare and I appreciate that) and 2) $3 rotating tap. Tonight was Dale's Pale by Oskar Blues. That's a good price for a quality beer. So, while Charleston was empty for the storm that never came through, we all enjoyed a pizza mainstay on Philip Street. Six thumbs up.
